In this day and age, how often do you get to see medieval knights in full armour fight it out to be the toughest of them all? I thought not.
Every year, the good folks at The Vauxhall Trust hosts a free 2-day festival to celebrate good ol’ St. George’s Day, the patron St. of England, in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
It’s not just medieval knights battling in the arena entertaining the bloodthirsty crowd. I had a wander around and noticed the plethora of family-friendly activities happening around me from falconry, to Morris dancers to Punch and Judy shows. Saturday could not have been any more perfect, the historic pleasure gardens basking in glorious sunshine.
Special to this year was a fiery performance that brought back to life the story of St. George and the dragon with spectacular fire display, pulse-quickening soundtrack and a captivating story-teller. It’s hard to believe such an awesome (and free) performance is taking place in this small garden to a people in the know.
George may not be as popular as his good mate Patrick, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a good craic when St. George’s Day roll on.
Vauxhall Pleasure Garden has a special place in my heart ever since I accidentally stumbled upon what later became one of the coolest show of Guy Fawkes Night way back in 2012. Keep your eyes peeled on vauxhalltrust.org to see more cool events coming.

Where you there too? Tell me all about it! Tweet me/Instagram me/ Facebook me and send me your pics too – I’d love to see them. And tell me what other events I should cover next!
